Desda “Mae Q” Moana, Valentine’s Day Devil Girl of the Month

Primal Root:  Ms. Moana, please, introduce yourself to The Collective and tell us just what you’re all about.

Desda “Mae Q” Moana: Hey there, Collective, I’m Desda “Mae Q” Moana. I’m a burlesque artist, theater and film actor, and vintage pin up/fetish model in Indianapolis, Indiana. I’m geeked to be the newest Devil Girl, as this kind of shit just melts my butter. Thank you for asking me to come and play in your little world. I like it here.

Root:  Well, Desda, it is an honor to play with you. Do you mind sharing with us what your inspiration was for your Valentine’s Day Devil Girl set?
Moana: The genius minds behind Firepuss Productions were the inspiration for this shoot. You said trash, they said “cheap ass hotel in nowhere, Indiana.” Well, first, we wanted to do a PBR and trailer park theme, but seeing as it’s January, we’re holding off till warmer weather. I’ll get you those pics in a few months. :) We wanted sex and blood. We wanted cheese. I approached Lady Riot, a fellow burlesque artist and photographer, with the idea to do a trashy horror shoot and she just ran with it. Her photog, Brian Hornbuckle, and loving husband, Jonny Voodoo were kind enough to come on the journey with us. Although Jonny got more nervous about my boobs in his face than the small knives near his carotids.

Root: I can understand, you do possess a very serious set of boobs, Desda. Now, I hope you don’t mind me getting a bit more intimate…What are some of your favorite Trash flicks?
Moana: I am a child of the 80′s so my favorites are slashers that attempt plot but fail miserably: My Bloody Valentine is my favorite of all time. So much so that for our Valentine’s Day show, I am currently developing a burlesque act as Harry. Gas Mask? Check. Pickaxe? Check. That’s my kinda Happy Heart day. I also loved anything with the words Camp, Sleepaway, Sorority, or Hell in the title. If sweet little things were going to their death, a psycho was stalking them, and there would be running in the woods in very little clothing? I was all about it. Even better if the plot included lesbian overtones, cross dressing, or gender confusion.

Root: Ms. Moana, you’re gonna fit in just fine around these parts. You;re a natural born Devil Girl. For the sake of The Collective, where can our followers go to see more of you? What projects are you working on and may we pimp any of your sites?

Moana:  Angel Burlesque is my hometeam: www.angelburlesque.com. I am a founding member, and part of the management team. If you’re in the Indy area, check us out. We perform in various venues several times a year. I will also be performing in burlesque festivals around the Midwest this year, and am always available to teach workshops or perform. I get to perform at Gen Con again in August with Chicago’s Glitter Guild…doing Geek burlesque makes my heart happy.

I have a few films being released this year: Scalene, with Margo Martindale is hitting Netflix soon, and Three Tears on Bloodstained Flesh, a Giallo styled horror, will be released later this year.

The biggest GEEK OUT I am anticipating is performing at the VIP party for Days of the Dead Con in Indy, July 6-8th. I am doing my Harry Tribute and a creepy doll routine to an ICP song. And? Kane Hodder and Gunnar Hansen seeing me do my thang? I may just pee a little, I’m just sayin’.

Root: I am you will pull a role reversal on those two boogeymen and have their hearts racing when they see you perform in July. Well, Desda “Mae Q” Moana, it is an honor and a privilege to have you featured as our Valentine’s Day Devil Girl. Thank your for your hard work and for keeping it Trashy.

Devil Girl January 2012: Whitlee

Devil Girl of the Month: January 2012

Ahhh, the fresh beginnings of 2012. A brand spankin’ new year with so much hope and potential! Well, unless this sucker turns out to be the last. Hence, why the gang here at The Trash Cinema Collective made sure to kick this year off right with a blazingly dark and sexy spread by one of our favorite up and coming models and aspiring writers: Whitlee Sabbath Flinn! A spread inspired by Fight Song era Marilyn Manson? Seems rather apropos to this connoisseur of filth.   An enormous fan of horror, deviously alluring  and a close personal friend of ours here at The Collective, Whitlee seems like the perfect way to get what could our last year on Earth off on just the right note.  Be sure to check out her sites and let Whitlee know what you think of her set!  Stay Trashy, Gang! – Root

Whitlee, tell us a little about your personal philosophy regarding Trash Horror Films:

“I’m a huge horror fan in general, although I’m a very picky, harsh critic when it comes to any movie I watch, great trash films are very dear to my heart! There’s something so special about combining great horror, with the hilarious comedy of everything that’s going on in the film just being ridiculous! It’s that this-is-so-bad-that-it’s-good-feeling that pumps me up every time I watch a new low budget horror film. Laughing while I’m disgusted is my favorite part. I’ll never forget the first time I watched “Dead Alive”, giggling madly as “Mom” popped the boil on her face, and the blood squirted right into the custard that was eaten without hesitation, but also being completely disgusted by the idea; that’s what makes trash horror great for me! Films like The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, Dead Alive, and Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series are examples of trashy horror films that I will love forever!”- Whitlee

Devil Girl December 2011: Mistress Zelda

Hey Gang, The Primal Root here, and I cannot express how stoked I am to introduce you to our December Devil Girl of the Month, Mistress Zelda! Very rarely does madness and sexiness mingle quite as perfectly as they do in our Mistress’s  bound, bloody and bold spread.  How can one not identify with Mistress Zelda’s current condition after enduring another holiday shopping season…well, forget all that mess and feast your eyes on  what awaits unwrapped beneath the Christmas tree this morning! Mistress Zelda who is sure to get your dradle spinning. Be sure to let her know what you think, and happy holidays!

While Zelda was in lock up I took the opportunity to ask her what her favorite holiday horror film was. Here’s what she had to say:

Mistress Zelda: My favorite Christmas horror film is a tough one. There aren’t a ton of Christmas horror films to choose from, and the kinds of things I like are pretty particular. I’d have to go with Shredder – Although it’s not really a pure Christmas movie, it’s set all on a winter holiday snowboarding trip in the mountains. It’s campy horror at it’s best – Ridiculous stereotyping, over the top deaths (the movies opens with a line of string tied between two trees – A snowboarder goes through it and is beheaded.) It has every cheesy cliche in horror movies to the point of absurdity. Watching the movie, it’s impossible to know for sure if it was meant to be campy, or if it was meant to be taken seriously – The movie has the perfect blend, it doesn’t go too far in either direction. I also hate the snow, so setting a horror movie there is a good way to catch my attention. Ha ha. Thanks, Shredder, I think I’ll stay away from the skiing lodges this year! I know that’s where all the bored rich over privileged crazy murderers with nothing better to do than kill tourists hang out!

Natasha, September Devil Girl of the Month 2011

Hey Gang, The Primal Root here, and I am thrilled to introduce to you our Devil Girl for the Month of September, Natasha! She’s created a sinfully sexy spread inspired by the religious and mythological figure, Lilith. Feel free to give into temptation and take a gander at Natasha’s excellent Devil Girl spread. Be sure to make her feel welcome! – Root

So, Natasha, why do you dig Trash Cinema?:  I love them because some are so corny and gory. Those two words are what make me watch them at all. I mean, in Leprechaun In the Hood Ice-T smokes a doobie with the Leprechaun! “Curious aroma indeed.” I also really love Lloyd Kaufman and everything he does! He represents everything corny and amazing in the industry. Even his worst is the best! Horror lets you take on different emotions, whether it is the standard fear, or even happiness and laughter. I love to see what each movie will evoke.

Noel, July’s Devil Girl of the Month (NSFW)

Hey Gang, The Primal Root here, and I am incredibly proud and honored to present to you our Devil Girl for the Month of July, Noel! She has delivered us an exceptionally, bloody, sexy, demonic set entitled, “Deadly Sins”. Noel’s a good fiend of ours here at the Trash Cinema Collective and I hope my fellow Collectors out there will give her the enthusiastic and warm welcome she so deserves. Enjoy and Stay Trashy!

Here’s what Noel had to say about her Devil Girl of the Month spread:

I’d always wanted to shoot in this dank, old, haunted attic that a friend of mine owned. There were always creepy sounds coming from it, and stuff would be moved the next day. Finally I just decided I HAD to do a scary set up there, and what better than a carnivorous demon? “Deadly Sins” is a demon set that was both fun yet terrifying to shoot. I kept hitting random cold spots in the attic (despite it being summer outside), and some of the photos didn’t come up on the computer because they were corrupted. Despite the creepiness, it was a very fun experience. – Noel

Devil Girl of the Month for May; Bambi BlueEyes

A Brief Message from Bambi BlueEyes:

I chose to create my photos around the cult classic “The Stuff” because it is one of the first cheesy horror films I ever saw. It is so terribly awesome! I really wanted to make my head explode with “Stuff” like the most epic death in the movie, but decided to have it oozing out of my skin instead. I hope you guys enjoy the pictures! It was a blast to make!

April Devil Girl of the Month: Sarah Snyder

We all know good and well to stay away from the coal mines on Valentine’s Day in the small town of Valentine Bluff. We know the legend of old Harry Warden who is said to haunt those mines seeking vengeance if anyone should celebrate the Valentine’s holiday again… But then there’s another legend…one about a beautiful female miner who stalks those same dark corridors. One who is just as quick to stick a pick-axe through your melon as she is to give you a smile…We’ve come to calling her Harriet Warden. And unlike Harry, she will rip the still beating heart out of your chest any day of the year…

Sarah Snyder has appeared in such films as Scarlet Rain, Dead Woman’s Hollow (www.deadwomanshollow.com), and the upcoming Ghoul Society and Night of the Living Dead (www.facebook.com/NOTLD2012).

I had the opportunity to ask Sarah why she happens to be such an intense fan of the horror genre. Here’s her response: I have been a huge horror fan since I was literally like 4 years old.  I used to stay up late on the weekends with my dad and he would let me watch USA’s Up All Night with Rhonda Shear.  It would usually be Friday the 13th or Halloween marathons, sometimes stuff like Motel Hell.  Just awesome 70′s and 80′s flicks that even at a young age I completely adored them.  My parents always let me see blood and guts, I would have to close my eyes when there was nudity, but they explained all the blood and stuff was fake, and I understood that, so I always loved all the creative kills and all the blood and gore. I love special FX the most in films, like oldschool practical FX, not CGI.  I get that CGI and practical FX together can look great, but I like seeing a good practical gag the most.  I love all sorts of horror, I have a collection of over 2000 horror dvds, seriously.  I probably only own 10 dvds that aren’t considered horror.  My house is plastered with horror movie posters and memoribillia, seriously, even in my kitchen and living room the walls cannot be seen because I have so many posters up.  I decorate like a 16 year old boy would, but it’s what I love   I started acting about 6 years ago and I strictly act in horror films, because that is what I love.  I will turn down a drama or a comedy any day, but I will never turn down a horror movie if I feel the part is right for me.

Enjoy Sarah’s slasher themed Devil Girl spread and be sure to give her a warm welcome to the Trash Cinema Collective.

Stay Trashy,

-The Primal Root
